History of the J-Lee-M

Pictured: Denny Hamill, an early skipper of the J-Lee-M, in the ship's engine room.

Built in 1954 by Jim Jones, and soaked in Tasmanian heritage history, the J-Lee-M is one of several vessels commissioned by the late Reg Morrison.

Reg was a legendary piner in his early years, and worked on a multitude of Tasmania's rivers and waterways cutting down trees (including Huon pine) and sending logs down the rivers.

Working as a piner was no easy affair, and required working and living upriver for months at a time.

Have a look at some of the fascinating history surrounding the early years of the J-Lee-M.
